Primark finally opens in Berlin!

One of the sweeties handed out at this morning's opening of the first ever Primark store in Berlin

One of the pluses of blogging is invites like I received recently, to take advantage of this morning's opening of the first ever Primark in Berlin. I've mentioned the store opening here on the blog a couple of times, but with the original opening date having been delayed, it's been quite a while. This morning however, it has finally happened, Primark is available here in Germany's capital city, even if it is in Steglitz! Another, even bigger Primark store will be opening in Alexanderplatz, where Saturn used to stand, but building regulations have held back it's launch so far and I was informed by one of the jolly Irish Primark representatives this morning that it is due to open early next year. Fingers crossed.

The large womenswear department at Primark Steglitz

The press, fellow bloggers and I were given a rather hurried tour through the store, taking in the large womenswear department, menswear, childrenswear, shoes, bags and accessories and the small homewares department. Womenswear spreads throughout most of the ground floor with a small space for office-style clothing, a very large section for bags (my own little obsession), and a small section for accessories such as jewellery, headwear etc.

I purchased one of the blue bags shown here!

Upstairs is divided between menswear, childrenswear / babyswear and shoes. I thought the shoe section could have done with being a little bigger and was rather oddly placed being on the same floor as the childrenswear and menswear, but what they had was a nice little selection. As disappointingly expected, the boys section of clothing in the kidswear department was far smaller then the girls, but there were some lovely little items in there including a retro gaming style hoodie that I bought for Milo for €7 (see pic of my purchases later in the post.) So cute.

 Baby clothing at Primark Berlin

I didn't take an awful lot of notice of the menswear department, being that my boy is quite a long way off of being a man and I don't have a man to buy for, but I did see some really nice tops in there and staying to Primark promises, basic T Shirts for €2.50 a pop, not bad going considering most of us cynical Brits (myself included) presumed the prices would change greatly in the exchange from Pounds to Euros.

The store features something like 46 changing rooms (I think that was the figure spouted, but I was drooling at clothing too much to write down the actual amounts) and large rows of tills to deal with the inevitable crush of customers. Two lifts sit to the right for parents with pushchairs and wheelchairs and the changing rooms are an ok size for small pushchairs, although I'm not sure the rather larger models will fit in well. There is also a wheelchair access specific changing room with extra space and handrails which I haven't seen in a shop here before.

Me with my items to try on chosen well before the store even opened!

I know I am not the only Brit here in Berlin to be excited about Primark's joining the city. From the extent of comments I have received whenever mentioning it's opening on my Facebook page, I know it has been long awaited. My only concern with its opening is that I no the longer have the opportunity to go to Primark when back in the UK, to buy loads of outfits, knowing that there's a good chance people here in Berlin won't be wearing the same as me. Or so I thought. The representative informed me that there are a lot of items between the stores here in Germany and those in the UK that don't cross over, that won't be sold in both countries. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing, will have to compare when I am back in the UK in a couple of weeks. Either way, I am thrilled to be able to find fun and young, affordable clothing for myself and Milo here in Berlin. It'll be even better once the Alexanderplatz store opens!

Here are more pics from my adventure through the half empty (pre-officially opened) store this morning:

Bird prints were seen on a number of the outfits

 Cute cupcake print top

Pastell tone, retro bags

The gorgeous sausage dog print dress

Making my way over to the large changing rooms with my bag full of goodies
(you can take 8 items in at a time for those of you who care)

My morning's purchases at Primark Berlin:
2 headbands, 2 bags, a jumper, a hoodie for Milo, a bird print snood
and a very soft bathrobe that cost just €12

    1. really? ha ha, yeah I know. Actually, it takes me about as long to get to the Steglitz store as it would for me to get to the Alex store, the thing is that at least with the Alex one, I could go there on the way to doing something else. I don't do anything else in Steglitz!

    1. Thanks. I say Primark with an English pronounced short 'i'. Will have to ask some Irish friends to say the word and hear the difference ha ha

I'm from the UK but live in Warsaw and really wish Primark would open a store here. I don't understand them they'd make a fortune by doing so.

Yeah, I have H&M and River Island but miss picking up bargains in Primark such as, pyjama's, underwear, bags.

    I live in hope :)

P.s Most brits pronounce it Pri (as we would pronounce lie or die) We also affectionately call it Primarni as in Armarni :)
