Bump watch: week 39
Can you see that smile on my face? That's the smile of a pregnant woman who has actually slept a solid 6 1/2 hours for the first time in months. Absolute bliss I tell you. What a difference some solid sleep can make.
I've been a bit slack on the blogging front in the last couple of days but I just haven't had the mental energy to manage to put even a few paragraphs together. Here I am today though and as long as this baby stays put until past this afternoon I will have achieved my main goals as written in my letter 'Dear Mother Nature...' and then it's just a waiting game from here on out.The curtains are now up, my parcels have been picked up and my hair has been cut (although it is much shorter than I had planned).
The days vary so much at this point in pregnancy that there are days like today when I am feeling energised and fit and then days like Saturday when I didn't even have the energy to eat and felt so flat the entire day. I can still thankfully say that the better days outweigh the awful days right now and as long as that is the case I don't feel desperate to get this baby out. That said, I have my midwife appointment today and I will be a little disappointed if there are no further signs of my body preparing for the labour as I am definitely of the opinion that the more my body does now, the less it will have to do during actual labour.
There have been the odd Braxton Hicks contraction which has been interesting and I actually quite like it because I feel it gives me the chance to practise focusing my attention away from the pain. It is also a reminder of what is to come and whilst that is in some way scary, I also like the mental preparation. Maybe I'm weird here?! For me it has some value though. I am someone that prefers to watch the needle going in when I am having an injection as knowing when it is going to happen, when the feeling is going to occur, makes me feel more prepared for it. Others I know like to look away. Each to their own I guess.
The dizziness I had been feeling in the last weeks has mainly gone which is a relief. The last time was 4 days ago and it's a relief to know I am not likely to black out at some point in my day, even on my bad days. I've had the odd symptom here and there but mainly it's tiredness and of course the pregnancy insomnia that comes and goes. The last two nights though I've managed to get to sleep before midnight which is a big deal for me so that's good.
There have been some last minute cravings and on a few evenings I have been sat in bed eating sardine sandwiches which is a little odd but boy were they delicious.
So there you go. Feeling positive today and now just waiting. I have lunch booked in with friends on Friday and am really hoping to make that as it will be lovely to catch up with some people I haven't seen for ages plus, where we're meeting, they do the most amazing blueberry cheesecake and I really want a slice! Fingers crossed the baby will let me go.

I once had a nurse tell me that I was weird for watching the needle go in. Okay, she didn't say weird but she did say that she'd never seen anyone do that before. So I think we're in the minority! :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck though... hope the baby lets you get that cheesecake!
We must be odd then! I think it's perfectly reasonable personally ;) Thanks re. the cheesecake, the baby will technically be getting some too so I hope he'll understand the importance ;)
DeleteWhoa! Impressive bump :0)Count down time... glad that its all going well.
ReplyDelete:) Ta, those late night cravings have certainly made their place on my body ;)
DeleteI always look away. Except when doing my own injections! Then it's kind of imperative that I look. I don't think you look any bigger than when I saw you last. I'm not sure I would even think you needed a seat on the bus, ha, ha, ha!!! Seriously, I hope you get EXCELLENT sleep this week and enjoy all the sardine sandwich (yuck) time left you have. Missing you TONS! Xxxx
ReplyDeleteWell it seems you are far more normal than Heather and I but I still think my reasoning makes sense ;)
DeleteThanks on the bump and sleep front ha ha. Missing you toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo xxxxxxxx
Awww...your baby will be here before you know it. Cheesecake is definitely my favorite treat and that only enhanced when I got pregnant. I hope you're able to go so you can enjoy it!
ReplyDelete:) Yes he will! Cheesecake is delicious whatever but when pregnant it is absolutely even better :)
